MUDSLINGING in the
City of Shady Cove Oregon

Fearful of the potential for house-cleaning at Shady Cove City hall, desperate forces have employed the recall process in an effort to thwart popular Shady Cove City Council member Linda Kristich’s candidacy for mayor of Shady Cove.

The main petitioner is Robert Bellah of Jane Dr. in Shady Cove.

Bellah and nine other people, including one not even living in the city, received the 168 valid signatures required to force a recall election.

Most people naturally ask the question: why did Mr. Bellah time his collection gathering to coincide with campaigning for the November 6 election?

The obvious answer to the question above is that the candidate whose interests he serves – Lena Richardson - has nothing to offer voters but slander, lies and deception – and so a recall petition works to falsely sully Kristich’s reputation – nothing more.

Recall elections are billed to the city of Shady Cove. Thousands of your tax dollars will go to pay for Mr. Bellah’s project whether you like it or not.

Why run a recall petition during an election? Why does the prospect of Kristich becoming mayor so terrorize the power structure of Shady Cove? Could it have to do with the fact that Kristich opposes the illegal, unethical financial practices that have become business as usual in Shady Cove?

It is notable that Robert Bellah signed the petition circulated to put Lena Richardson on the ballot for mayor and that 72% of the people that signed to put her on the ballot also signed Bellah's recall petition.

The evidence suggests that Shady Cove is being run by a small group of insiders and that they don’t want their corrupt gravy train to be derailed by honest, ethical candidates.

You will be getting the following ballot information in the mail soon, for a November 27th vote.

ROBERT BELLAH’S RECALL DOCUMENT states as follows:

(The text promoting the recall is italicized. Kristich’s response is bold text.)

“We the Shady Cove Recall Committee, feel that City Councilor Linda Kristich does not faithfully represent the people she swore to serve but, rather, cares more about her own personal agenda.”

Unsupported opinion—not fact.

“When she and her partner gathered enough signatures to qualify an initiative for the next ballot, she tried to convince the Shady Cove City Council to approve the petition, rather than letting it go to a vote of the people.”

Not fact – unsupported opinion.

“Thankfully she was overruled by the rest of the council on each attempt”

Opinion not fact—there was no motion and therefore - no vote

“Ms. Kristich ran on the promise to revitalize Shady Cove with new business and housing opportunities.”

My efforts are ongoing.

"However, she proposed that all business conduct transactions primarily in cash."

That assertion is patently false.

“She proposed withholding business licenses unless the business owner committed to not using plastic bags.”

Patently false – a complete and utter fabrication.

“She recently voted against the council’s proposal to allow state-mandated accessory dwelling units in Shady Cove.”

This statement is false. State-mandated dictums require no vote.

“Our wish is to have people on our city council who respect the will of the people, promote business growth and support the idea that every vote counts.”

This statement is opinion having nothing to do with me.

The recall petition was plainly a vehicle to falsely speak ill of me during this mayoral election.

KRISTICH’S OFFICIAL RESPONSE

"I am running for the office of the mayor of Shady Cove and I will continue to promote my candidacy. I will not resign because of a recall effort.

During my term as city councilor, I voted against the mayor and council on issues that I believed were not in the best interests of our city. As an independent outsider, I have fought against insider tactics. All councilors should protect the interests of the people of a city and speak for the people who feel they have no voice.

Part of the insider election strategy was to campaign against me via a recall petition. A number of you have told me that you signed believing that you were supporting my candidacy. In fact, more than 24 citizens of Shady Cove signed both recently circulated petitions -- in other words, more than 24 people signed to show their support for both sides of the same issue. Why?

I have valid reasons to fight the recall process.

A vote for me is a vote against the insiders that have run this city for too long.

I would appreciate your vote for mayor and also against the recall." (Emphasis added)
